Juno Meets Boomstick: Diablo Cody Rewriting Evil Dead Remake

That is not a happy face.

“If you want a vision of the future, imagine a tree sodomizing Michael Cera — forever.”
– George Orwell [citation needed]

Remember that not-so-secret Evil Dead remake? The one that is most definitely not an Evil Dead sequel, but is, even more confusingly, the second time Campbell and his BFF Sam Raimi have attempted to remake the 1981 horror/comedy/botanical sexy time classic? That’s still a thing. They even had some guy named Fede Alvarez write a script for the thing.

Now, according to the Huffington Post, stripper-cum-inoffensive-hipster-stereotype Diablo Cody has been hired to revise the script:

More compelling, perhaps (or heretical, depending on your personal taste) is that Juno screenwriter Diablo Cody is apparently “doing revisions” on the latest draft, which was penned by relative newcomer Fede Alvarez.

If you refuse to trust any site affiliated with the AOL brand, perhaps you’ll believe the words of Bruce Campbell himself. The man :

Go Diablo, go! Write like the wind!

I could take the easy route here. I could snatch the low hanging fruit, and pander to our geek audience by decrying the concept of Cody’s hyper-precious wordplay invading the lovingly crafted world of dark horror crafted by Raimi, Campbell et al. almost three decades ago.

I could do that, but instead I think I’ll go full contrarian here and point out that the original Evil Dead was kind of a piece of shit. I know, the cheap effects and hilariously bad acting is part of the charm, but still you guys, that movie sucks. I don’t trust Cody to reinvigorate the concept – Jennifer’s Body is hands down the second worst film based on a Hole song ever made — but she can’t possibly do worse than the original, can she?

Worst-case scenario: Instead of the chainsaw dismemberment, Ash removes his hand from his “Body Parts” circle.

You would totally watch that!

Hadn’t thought about it before, but if Bruce is cool with it, that’s good enough for me. No matter what I hear about it, I’ll definitely check it out when it comes out.
