Ten-Hut! Planetside 2 is Coming and This Time the TR Will Win.

Have you ever played a game that, even among your gamer friends, few have ever tried? Does it fill you with pride to tell them stories from that game? And, most importantly, do you have an instant bond with someone who played it with you?

If you’re a veteran of Planetside (and I started during the closed beta!), you probably already know what I’m talking about.

For the rest of you, I hope you’ll get excited about the potential of the sequel. Imagine a first-person shooter, but with thousands of players all sharing one server like an MMO! Oh, and imagine it had vehicles like the Battlefield games including giant mechs! Isn’t that sweet? Yes, I realize of games have mined this particular recently. You’re missing the point, which is this…

Imagine doing all this in 2003. Impressed yet?

Now the sequel is coming and I’m very excited. The website is nothing more than a countdown at this point, timed to end during Sony Online Entertainment’s Fan Faire. If you need me, I’ll be outside polishing my Prowler…

I was a beta tester on the original for this as well. Went on to be a command level member of the Bastard Battalion, a top 10 TR outfit on Emerald server. There has not been another game like Planetside in all this time. I’m really looking forward to this, and hope to see my old outfit reform. I know Black Widow Company still exists.

The thing that really stuck with me about Planetside was the opportunity to truly specialize in something just like a real soldier. Of course, getting enough people organized so that you could actually USE your specialty (flying escort missions for troop transports was my favorite) was the trick.
